Your life was planned and longed for

Or came as a surprise,

Whatever way you started

You changed our very lives;

Your newborn eyes, just opened

Would fill our hearts with joy;

Your first words, crawling, walking,

Our own dear girl or boy.

We dreamed about your future,

Your learning and your play,

The family and friends you

Would share with every day;

New doors that you would open,

New things that you would do,

The partner and the children

That love would bring to you.

Our dreams for you were shattered

In countless cruel ways;

Some lost before their birthing,

Some living only days;

Some dying young of illness,

Some tragically were killed,

And one way or another,

Our fragile hopes are stilled.

Great living God, great Spirit,

Bring light to all our days,

Surround us with Your healing

In unexpected ways;

Surprise our hearts with laughter,

With people who will share;

Restore the joy of living

With love, and hope and care.
